Under 1hr from Preston / Manchester |
---|
Manchester is 30 minutes from Preston along the M61. Although at this time it's not in my good books, Salford have made access more difficult by car by creating a pedestrian friendly stretch along the main road that adds 15 minutes to the journey and car parking costs about £8. Trafford Centre is free parking and next to the motorway if all you want is shops. Manchester Art Gallery and the Industry and Science Museum are good in the city centre. | |
Manchester - Imperial War Museum (north) - next to the Ship Canal, across from the Lowry Centre and close to Old Trafford Football Ground. Unusual building, unusual lay out of exhibits. Frequent audio - photographic display that uses the whole of the large interior to give peoples accounts of their war experiences. |
Lowry Centre - Theatre, Art Gallery, Restaurant and Outlet Mall. Well done, particularly the film account of Lowry's life. |
Manchester United FC, Old Trafford. With statue of Sir Matt Busby and memorial to the Busby Babes. Mega-store on ground floor with free car park across road - on non-match days. Tour of ground is good. |
Manchester Museum of Science and Industry. Large sprawling site containing the first railway station. Aircraft exhibits in separate building well worth seeing. |
