31st May 2019 P46, W16, D13, L17, F67, A67, Pts61, Pos 14th
PNE lost the last game of the season 3-0 finishing in their lowest position since January and their lowest finishing position since entering the Championship in 2015/6.
Blackburn were 15th, Wigan 18th, Bolton 23rd so top of the locals. Bolton having a torrid time with administration.
30th April 2019 P45, W16, D13, L16, F67, A64, Pts61, Pos 12th
The season coming to an anti-climax as PNE lose 4 games in April, winning 1 and drawing 1. To get into the play-offs would mean winning 4 and drawing 2 a steep call as they had 3 of the top 6 to play. Towards the end of the season WBA sacked their manager and Preston's Alex Neill was considered a candidate. Some said it took the players minds off the game although it seems unlikely. Alex signed a new 3yr contract at PNE and the WBA post is still vacant.
31st March 2019 P39, W15, D12, L12, F59, A52, Pts57, Pos 10th
A good unbeaten league run which stretched back to 1st January came to an end at the end of March with a defeat at Reading who are struggling near the bottom. PNE would have been 6th if they'd got 3 points. North End are still in with a chance of reaching 5th where Aston Villa lie with 60 points.
28th February 2019 P34,W12, D11, L11, F53, A48, Pts47, Pos 10th
Unbeaten in February with 2 away wins and beating table topping Norwich 3-1 at home.
January ended well with two good away wins at QPR and Stoke. Losing to Rotherham was a bad result. Losing to Doncaster in the cup was poor as well.
In the January transfer window quite a few players were transferred or loaned out. Carlisle sign striker Simpson, Bradford sign defender Woods, keeper Maxwell and Pringle loaned to Tranmere. Preston sign striker Stockley from Exeter, Rafferty from Rochdale, keeper Ripley from Middlesbrough, Gallagher and Earl agree new contracts.
December was an up and down month with a surprise away win at Notts Forest and a loss at home to Hull who seem to be on a roll at the moment. Gaining 7 points out 18 isn't too great. Halfway through the season PNE are 13pts off the play offs and 7 pts clear of relegation.
Leeds are top by 3pts, 6pts clear of 3rd with Norwich 2nd. Blackburn, Preston, Wigan, Bolton are all in the bottom half in that order.
Two wins and two draws made a good month. Beating local rivals Blackburn Rovers 4-1 and Bristol City away 1-0 were good results.
Three draws and 2 wins made for a better October. A disappointing home draw with Rotherham who are below PNE ended the month.
The only way is up. One draw and four defeats made for a poor September in the Championship. Drawing to Middlesbrough in the League Cup and losing on penalties wasn't good either.
Scoring 2 goals in each game but giving away 2 or 3 makes it look like the attack is doing alright but the defence is letting them down.
Starting with a home win and the next home game a draw doesn't sound too bad, but 3 away defeats without scoring means home results count more. Playing Swansea and Stoke early might have been a good thing and Norwich are often a mixed bag so PNE could perhaps have got 5 points from those games. Sometimes it's good to start slowly but it could bring the jitters.
The season begins on 4th August 2018
