Extended season due to Covid 19

31st July 2020 P46 W18 D12 L16 F59 A54 Pts 56 Pos 9th

An up and down season but remaining in 6th position until the Covid-19 shutdown in March 2020. When the season re-started without spectators in June PNE won only 2 games in the last 8. Ending 9th which isn't too bad considering.

Promoted were Leeds, West Brom and in the play offs Fulham.

Relegated were Charlton, Wigan and Hull. Wigan doing very well to almost overcome a disastrous points deduction for going into administration. Sheffield Wednesday took a deduction in the new season 20/21..

22nd July Bristol City 1 Preston 1

18th July Preston 2 Birmingham 0

15th July Brentford 1 Preston 0

11th July Preston 1 Notts F 1

8th July Sheff Wed 1 Preston 3

4th July Huddersfield 0 Preston 0

17th July 2020 Alex Dawson 1940-2020 dies

After being signed from Manchester United Alex Dawson (The Black Prince) scored over 100 goals for Preston. His transfer fee was £20,000 in October 1961. His greatest game for Preston in my opinion was against Leeds at Deepdale in 1964. It was the best PNE game I've ever seen, except perhaps the cup final in 1964 where Alex scored again. 3rd March 1964, Leeds were top of the league and PNE 3rd. Preston 2 Leeds 0.

Seeing Alex taking a penalty was legendary. Bursting the net, the goalie never saw it. Although he was known for heading.

In 1967 he moved to Bury and carried on scoring.

Dawson was a barrel chested battering ram who caused excitement where-ever he was. Thanks for the memories Alex. RIP.

June 21st 2020 - P38 W16 D9 L13 F51 A46 Pts 57 Pos 6th

The Championship season re-starts on 20th June. Luton v PNE 1-1. PNE leading until the 81st minute.

March 7th 2020 - P37 W16 D8 L13 F50 A45 Pts 56 Pos 6th

Corona Virus shutdown for an unspecified period.

Last match before Covid shut down 7th March PNE 1 QPR 3. A poor end with 3 successive defeats but still 6th. PNE were possibly into the play offs if the season hadn't re-started in June.

9 matches to play.

Leeds 71pts

WBA 70pts

Fulham 64pts

Brentford 60pts

Notts Forest 60pts

PNE 56pts.

Bristol City 55pts

Millwall 54pts

Cardiff 54pts

.....

Blackburn 53, Swansea 53, Derby 51, QPR 50, Reading 48, Sheff W 48.

It's tight. Leeds and WBA have been consistent. The other teams have had ups and downs.

February 29th 2020 - P36 W16 D8 L12 F49 A42 Pts 56 Pos 6th

A second mixed month starting with what appeared a good away win at Stoke although Stoke are struggling this year, same with the away win at Wigan. Ending the month on the 29th February an away defeat at Fulham. Losing 3 of the last 4 games but still 6th keeps PNE in the mix for the play-offs.

January 31st 2020 - P29 W13 D7 L9 F42 A34 Pts 46 Pos 7th

Another mixed month ending with 2 wins, after a draw away at Blackburn following a home defeat by Middlesbrough. Just 1 point from the play-off position so still a good chance.

Leeds are top with 55 pts, WBA second with 53, Notts Forest with 51 next. Next come Brentford, Fulham and Bristol City all inconsistent like PNE. Still a good position to be in for Preston.

PNE signed Scott Sinclair on 2yr loan from Celtic a player with a decent record scoring 62 at Celtic and being promoted with Swansea in 2011. PNE loaned Ginelly to Bristol Rovers and Josh Earl to Ipswich, both are young players.

December 31st 2019 - P25 W11 D6 L8 F38 A28 Pts 39 Pos 7th

A mixed month starting with 2 defeats, followed by 2 victories, followed by 2 draws and ending with a defeat. Almost snatching a win at Leeds. Both defeats being at home. Just 8 points out of 21.

November 30th 2019 - P18 W9 D4 L5 F31 A22 Pts 31 Pos 6th

A brief spell at the top of the league with 3 wins but then losing 2 games away, one 4-0 at Hull was a bad end to the month. A tough game coming at WBA on Monday.

October 31st 2019 - P14 W7 D4 L3 F27 A16 Pts 25 Pos 2nd

Second in the Championship with WBA above, Leeds and Swansea below on goal difference.

With 4 league matches in October, 2 wins, one a big one against Barnsley, and losing at Reading and drawing at home to Leeds. Then beating Blackburn at Deepdale after being 2-0 down.

Daniel Johnson scored 8 and Tom Barkuizen 7, Josh Harrop 5 this season.

September 30th 2019 - P9 W5 D2 L2 F17 A11 Pts 17 Pos 5th

A good away win but drawing the last game after being beaten in mid-week against Manchester City in the EFL Cup. Having peaked at 2nd in the month.

August 31st 2019 - P6 W3 D1 L2 F11 A8 Pts 10 Pos 7th

A decent start scoring almost 2 goals a game on average although conceding more than 1. Almost getting all three points at Nottingham Forest.

The season begins on Friday 2nd August 2019 with one match followed by the rest on Saturday 3rd August. Millwall v PNE.
