The 2016 Leyland Society event also incorporated a celebration of 120 years since Leyland began. Leyland Trucks made a big occasion of it by opening their factory at Farington for touring and having a lot of family friendly activities as well as the vehicle display.
There was a big turn-out of people, largely staff and their families, and the weather was very kind.
A regular bus tour was offered from the British Commercial Vehicle Museum.
Walking round the factory was very interesting, although no photographs were allowed. There are several overhead tracks carrying truck chassis that develop as they progress resulting in several types including 4, 6 and 8 wheeled and container lorry tractor units (in layman's speak). All very clean, well maintained. The parts delivery facility was like those seen on photographs with high racks of parts picked up by a very tall fork lift.
